İzmir, Aug 4 () - In Aegean province of İzmir, a bronze statue of Hippocrates, or the father of medicine, will be erected at the entrance of Dokuz Eylul University Medical Faculty Hospital. Hippocrates, an epic figure of medicine that Medical Faculty students oath while graduating, had marked his traces when he had lived in Anatolian territory.

The sculpture, made by Professor Gökçen Ergur of Faculty of Fine Arts Sculpture Department, has been conveyed to İstanbul city for bronze founding.

The chief physician of the hospital, Professor Mehmet Refik Mas has initiated the project to erect Hippocrates’ sculpture, as part of the triplet consisting of Avicenna and Avrerroes’ statues, two other historical figures from Hippocrates’ ecole.

Accordingly, a sculpture illustrating a bear doing meditation and a Chihuahua dog statue had been erected in front of the child hospital to attract kids, along with a trabecular bone sculpture and statues to commemorate doctors who have died on duty in the hospital.

The art enthusiast chief physician said that the sculptures refer to a “important mission of identification” and added that a relief illustrating Asclepieion, who symbolizes art and medicine, is soon to be installed in front of the chief physician building.
