Yusuf Çınar / Çorum, Aug 28 () – Excavations in Bayat district of Çorum province unearthed a 5,000-year-old copper oven, and encouraged archaeologists’ attempts to shed light on economic and trade relations of the Chalcolitic era.
A team led by Professor Ünsal Yalçın have been working in the Derekutuğun Village in the last four years, within excavations works launched after authorisation of Tourism Ministry via Çorum Museum.
The works have also unearthed ancient galleries and revealed that people had used firewoods to enlighten the underground galleries back in the era.
“We are at a very important point, where we can bring light to the history. We have a 5,000 year old copper oven. What we have for now in our hands is the information that this copper is high quality. These coppers had been unearthed, forged and commercialized in the époque. However, we still haven’t revealed where they have been sold to, what they were used for, and what coal miners had gained in return. We are not working with digging tools as miners do. We advance with a very carefull work, with minor excavation tools. We have advance 11 meters and we expect to reveal detailed founding in one or two weeks. History says the right. History is the certain information” said Professor Yalçın.
