Istanbul, July 7 () - Retail sales turnover increased at higher speed than increase at volumes, according to the Retail Sales Volume Index data released by Turkstat on Tuesday.

Seasonal and calendar adjusted retail sales volume with constant prices increased by 0.7 percent in May against in the previous month, while retail turnover increased by 1.7 percent compared with the previous month, showing the high inflation in Turkey.

In the same month, food, drinks and tobacco volume sales increased by 1.7 percent, non-food sales fell by 0.2 percent and automotive fuel sales increased by 1.2 percent.

Computers, books, telecommunications equipment sales rose by 2.5 percent, electronic goods and furniture sales fell by 5.3 percent, textiles, clothing and footwear sales rose by 0.1 percent, medical goods and cosmetic sales rose by 1.6 percent and sales via mail orders and internet increased by 2.1 percent compared with the previous month.

Seasonal and calendar adjusted retail turnover with current prices increased by 1.7 percent in May 2015 compared with the previous month. In the same month, food, drinks and tobacco sales increased by 2.0 percent, non-food sales increased by 0.5 percent and automotive fuel sales increased by 3.5 percent.

Annual developments

Retail sales volume increased by 4.5 percent on annual basis, while retail turnover increase almost doubled it by rising by 8.5 percent over the same period.

Calendar adjusted retail sales volume with constant prices increased by 4.5 percent in May 2015 compared with the same month of previous year. In the same month, food, drinks and tobacco sales increased by 5.1 percent, non-food sales decreased by 0.6 percent and automotive fuel sales increased by 14.1 percent.

Computers, books, telecommunications equipment sales decreased by 0.5 percent, electronic goods and furniture sales decreased by 6.8 percent, textiles, clothing and footwear sales increased by 2.4 percent, medical goods and cosmetic sales increased by 5.2 percent and sales via mail orders and internet increased by 17.9 percent compared with the same month of previous year.

Calendar adjusted retail turnover with current prices increased by 8.5 percent in May 2015 compared with the same month of previous year. In the same month, food, drinks and tobacco sales increased by 15.1 percent, non-food (except automotive fuel) sales increased by 6.3 percent and automotive fuel sales increased by 5.4 percent.
